My Poles

My Poles

A very catchy title, but not related to one of the most popular Polish expat services in Germany – mypolacy.de – rather about all things related to online business in Germany and particularly building and advertising your own website on German territory.

We are a nation of entrepreneurs who quickly learn new things and take various initiatives in Germany. A large number of people working on a permanent contract in Germany eventually come to the conclusion that they will never achieve an outstanding career on a permanent contract due to the glass ceiling, simply because certain positions, particularly those considered managerial or executive roles, are reserved for Germans – this is unfortunately a sad reality.

Therefore, among Poles living and working in Germany, it is natural to start their own business. We are a very entrepreneurial nation, taught by all wars imposed on us by “neighbors” whose names I deliberately omit here, as well as 50 years of communism also provided by one of our neighbors – these have hardened us as a nation. Something that would make a typical German cry is normalcy for us Poles, and we can always find a way out of any situation.

We perfectly fill the niches in which a typical German will not be interested, but we are also increasingly boldly competing with German companies in specialized sectors. The work of Poles in Germany is valued for its quality and efficiency, so it’s worth taking our own initiatives.

Germany is a very formalized country, and many people are intimidated by the fact that they won’t be able to handle all these formalities on their way to starting their own business, or are afraid of responsibility for some mistakes, etc. because in Germany, penalties can indeed be very harsh if someone forgets something – unfortunately, this is a strange phenomenon for us Poles, but “denunciation” of others is not uncommon in Germany.

Be prepared for the fact that if you start competing with a German company and begin to threaten its interests (take away part of the market), and your website or generally the way your business operates won’t fully comply with the requirements of the German market – be prepared for the fact that a German will not hesitate to report these irregularities to the relevant authorities. Therefore, it’s not worth saving on a lawyer who would prepare you a shop regulation or even a “foolish” privacy policy for your website, because these are so-called duplicate safety measures which can save you from many troubles if someone accuses you of not covering certain aspects in your privacy policy – you have the invoice for legal services whose purpose is to ensure that the text of this document is always up-to-date and adequate to the functionality of your website, you can show the receipt and refer the complainer to a lawyer who will be responsible. Unfortunately, German realities are specific – it’s not Poland where everything can be sorted out in one way or another; here there’s no mercy. If you don’t pay attention to something, you may have to pay dearly for it.

Incidentally, look how Poles behave when they cross the border into Germany – in Poland, no one bothers with laws, while crossing the German border everyone drives timidly like sheep looking at restrictions, no one exceeds speed limits even by 1km/h; where does this come from?

It comes from the fact that penalties are quick and inevitable, the enforcement of law in Germany works perfectly and penalties can be very harsh.

Therefore, we Poles must make sure that running a business in Germany is not disrupted by anything because it will indeed be so if your website or generally your business has legal protection from someone who will guarantee that you meet all the requirements of the German market concerning your website, generally your business which you will run in Germany. Insurance for business activity is also an absolute necessity – it’s not a matter of trivialities like in Poland…

We Poles are able to establish effective competition with German companies; we no longer just compete on price, but above all on quality and we fill niches that Germans are not interested in and do so successfully. We have nothing to be ashamed of as a nation.

If you’re interested in building a website for the German market (or any other), contact us – we’ve been building websites and taking care of their advertising since 2005 (as a company) and generally since the late nineties, so we have extensive experience. A consultation will cost you nothing.
