Graphics to the site.

Graphics for a website are an extremely important thing. A website without graphics doesn’t exist today. Are you standing in front of the decision to build your own website? It’s a good time to think about where to get graphics for your website, assuming that you’re creating some kind of hobby website, you can use one of the free stock services, such as pixabay.com – there are many such services on the internet. If you don’t run a business on your website, it should be enough.

I mention that the photos from these types of services “should be enough” because, unfortunately, photos from free stock services do not always have good quality. Graphics from stock services do not have as much variety of images that can be selected for thousands of different topics, etc. This is a source of graphics mainly for amateurs, although it’s not uncommon for companies specializing in building commercial websites to use such graphics on their clients’ websites to lower costs (no wonder … licensed high-quality photos must cost something).

Although the topic may be suitable for an amateur who builds his own website, for professionals who live by building websites for companies, this is no longer a good source of images. Why?

For several reasons:

* Too limited number of images
* Too limited variety of images
* Poor search results for topics you’re looking for
* No 100% guarantee that the images are legal

I mention the legality of graphics on a website because there are many free stock services, and no one has the resources or expertise to check if the image you’ve downloaded from such a service is legal – i.e., was provided by the author of the photo or uploaded to the site by a thief who steals someone else’s work ….

There are services that offer illegal images, graphics stolen from professional stock services, websites, etc. for profit. How can these “stock services” make money? By showing ads on their sites – it’s an easy way to get a lot of traffic, but it’s nothing more than piracy.

While the amateur who creates a blog about his life won’t have any major problems with using images from free stock services (at most he’ll receive a warning that he’s using an image illegally or be asked to prove that he has the right to use it), in the case of businesses, this makes a huge difference because penalties for using illegal images or graphics can reach tens of thousands of dollars per image.

That’s why I don’t recommend using unreliable sources of graphics or images when building a company website – it’s not worth the risk of bankruptcy in the event of any claims or claims from competitors who want to eliminate you from the market, etc.

There are stock services that charge for access to their images – prices can be shocking, sometimes even over €50 per image. But thanks to them, you have what you see.

If you wanted to choose a stock service where you could legally download high-quality photos on a cyclical basis for your website (e.g., for an integrated blog that will affect traffic from search engines), it might be more cost-effective and less risky than using “free” services.

I personally use one service that has acceptable prices – if we can say so in the context of stock services, which are absurdly priced – 123rf.com. The cheapest annual subscriptions with a daily limit on downloading images (5 pieces) start at 213 PLN per month. Is it worth it?

If you run a company and use such services for your website – I think peace of mind is priceless. You have a safety net in the form of monthly invoices for using the service’s image download service – if anyone wants to question the legality of your images, show them an invoice – no court in the world will stick it to you because you bought the service in good faith, even if it later turns out that some photo wasn’t entirely legal. The service itself is responsible for verifying the legality of the images – not you.

Of course, this isn’t cheap, but thanks to this, you have what you see. A few examples are in this text (their quality has been limited by me for this article, so imagine them in their original format).
