Positioning is a set of activities designed to get Google to direct traffic to your site of people actively searching in their search engine for services or products offered by your company.
How Long Does It Take to Position a Website?
There’s no such thing as “positioning” a website, because positioning is an ongoing process. There’s no point at which you can say, “Aha, we’ve reached TOP1, now let’s just sit back and enjoy the traffic…”
Unfortunately, all your competition does exactly the same thing, trying to reach that TOP1 position and knocking you off if you do manage to get there.
That’s why positioning is a continuous process. Stopping it will only lead to gradually decreasing visibility in Google, reducing traffic, and as a result, reducing sales of your services or products.
I have clients who come to me with ultimatums, wanting to be in TOP3+ within a month, or else. There are thousands like them, each one wants to be there immediately. The time it takes to position a website is influenced by so many factors that it’s hard to understand for outsiders, but if it were as simple as they think, everyone would be there. Unfortunately, the number of positions on one search results page is limited, and only the best and most persistent sites will get there. This is a long-term investment.
Results never come overnight because they can’t. The “overnight success” era ended in 2013 when Google introduced an algorithm that automatically blocked such methods of positioning. Today, much more sophisticated actions are taken into account, with quality and naturalness being more important than quantity.
The entire process must be designed to avoid raising suspicions from Google that the results are somehow manipulated.
There are industries and regions where positioning can result in traffic within 4-6 months, while others may take 5-6 months or require a high budget and extensive actions.
Key factors affecting how long it takes to position a website for traffic:

* Region you want to be highly visible in Google
* Level of competition in that region
* How much the competition spends on SEO
Fastest results can be achieved in niche industries or regions, or by choosing targeted keywords with a “long tail.” Many people try to focus immediately on broad keywords like “loans” or “shoes,” but it’s not possible to position such keywords immediately. You need to build up your site with hundreds or thousands of less competitive phrases before you can think about effective positioning of these broad keywords.
Unfortunately, Google blocks growth in positions for such keywords for new websites. It’s natural that companies that have been positioning their sites for years, having spent millions and finally managing to push those keywords into the top 5+, cannot give up to a newcomer who wants the same thing in just one or two months… no, it’s not possible.
The general principle is this: if you want relatively fast high-traffic on your website, start by creating a blog on that site, writing high-quality, informative articles about the services you offer and products you sell, but not sales-oriented texts. Provide value to readers before they buy from you, stand in their shoes, build trust with them, and your effort will be rewarded with traffic and trust.
There are also additional techniques that multiply Google traffic if you already have a blog:
