Designing websites is a term often searched in Google by people interested in professional services, unfortunately, the search results include numerous firms that have “website design” as their business, but nothing more.
What does it mean to order website design or construction (e.g. web store)?
A few years ago, a project would start from Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, but CSS has revolutionized website design by reversing the logic. In the past, we used to prepare the entire layout in PSD files, then cut them into templates and insert them into it. Today, design is an essential element of creating a solution, and the project comes alive while building the website (web sites are built this way).
The client presents their preferences for the website’s style and functionality, we start working on the site, and the client observes our progress, suggesting comments and ideas. Designers, in collaboration with programmers, make these changes, and thus the website is created. The website is built as long as necessary to meet the situation, the client decides how their web site should look, and each element is polished until the client says it meets all their functional and aesthetic requirements.
This is how websites are designed today by companies that take this seriously. Others still rely on templates from 2000-2010 or projects created in Photoshop.
If you choose a version with templates, the client gets exactly what they pay for – a low-quality service costing 500-600 PLN. If you choose the second option, they often unknowingly spend thousands of PLN on outdated solutions.
Websites designed using an old schema are not adapted to mobile devices. Unfortunately, it often happens that the client finds out about this too late and then the company building such a website suggests creating an alternative mobile version, which also costs a pretty penny…
Today, the mobile and normal website are one, and a mobile website is created while building a stationary device (web sites are built this way). Companies that have learned to switch to new design and construction methods introduced by CSS build websites in this way.
The advantage of designing websites in this way is that the site is cheaper than two parallel solutions, it’s visually attractive on devices such as PCs, laptops, tablets, or smartphones. What’s more, such designed websites load faster than traditionally designed ones filled with graphics.
When collecting offers, take a look at the portfolio of companies to which you are sending your inquiries on your smartphone – you will be surprised how many firms still design in a traditional, non-responsive way. Internet sales require responsiveness because people immediately close websites that cannot be easily viewed on their smartphone.
Why is it so important? It’s because today the first violin in search engines is Google, which pays attention to user comfort when using the network. If a website does not meet the standards required by the search engine, it cannot expect high rankings in its ranking, and Google is not a player that can be underestimated – it accounts for over 90% of global internet traffic.
