Warning: Bad picture taken by Facebook from a shop on WordPress.

You have an online store on WordPress/WooCommerce and you’re wondering why when someone shares the link to your product, it always loads the first image from the home page instead of the specific product image?

In this short article, we’ll suggest what to do to resolve this problem.

Sometimes, the website template itself forces the use of an image provided in its settings for social media sharing, e.g. with BeTheme template (and possibly many others).

The image in the above screenshot is a link to an image that was supposed to be used when sharing anything from the website, set up in the SEO section and OPEN GRAPH IMAGE field. To solve this problem, we disabled this feature on the template side and used one of two plugins: Yoast SEO or Rank Math SEO, which allow you to precisely set the image for each product from the plugin settings.

From now on, after re-updating the product, when someone clicks the “share on Facebook or Twitter” button on the product page, they will receive the specific image along with the product link.

If you have a similar problem and your online store is built on WordPress, use one of these plugins and define the images to be used for sharing products in social media on the product pages.
