Responsive Websites
The term “responsive website” is becoming increasingly popular in various media, but not everyone knows what it exactly means. A non-responsive online store or website that doesn’t meet the current standards loses twice – once because a person browsing a non-responsive website has navigation problems and leaves quickly, and two times on Google’s ranking position.
The term gains importance with each passing month as the number of mobile devices grows rapidly year by year. Today, almost everyone has an internet package connected to their smartphone, not to mention tablets. We perform many operations that were previously reserved for desktop computers or laptops from the level of tablets or smartphones.
Responsiveness of a website means adapting the website to these standards.
A non-responsive website is potentially a vulnerability without an easy exit because it’s usually cheaper to build a responsive website from scratch than to rebuild a non-responsive one.
The sale of non-responsive websites is quite common even today, especially where the budget plays first fiddle. Currently, few companies designing websites don’t notice this problem, let alone those in the top 10 Google search results. I’m talking about companies that appear under keywords “website design” or “websites” in the TOP5 – it’s not a good sight when some of them hand over non-mobile-friendly projects.
Recently, I came across such a project for a large hotel, carried out by a so-called “large” web design agency. The website couldn’t be viewed on both 4-inch and 10-inch tablets.
Responsive Websites
I wonder why the client didn’t point this out to the contractor …
After all, decision-makers also use tablets and smartphones – don’t they look at their websites on these devices?
I was shocked by what I saw, especially since the company that executed it is part of the top league, carrying out large projects for major companies.
Responsiveness should be a standard today, unfortunately, it’s not. Not only do clients (most of them) lack awareness of this need, but also web design companies don’t try to change it by producing monstrosities.
Some companies charge extra fees for responsiveness, which is natural because responsiveness is connected with a greater workload – you have to include more devices/resolutions in CSS and therefore scaling on all types of devices, which isn’t trivial, so it comes at a cost.
So, don’t expect that “Allegro website” price will get you a fully responsive website with parallax or fancy sliders – this just can’t be done at such a low price. The era of Allegro websites is fading away; today, mobile-friendly devices are leading the way. Chalet owners from Allegro won’t be able to do it at such prices.
A responsive website is one that scales properly on every type of device and even more so – one that should display correctly in any type of web browser (which many people forget).
To build a responsive website, you can’t just turn on an HTML generator today; you need to know CSS style sheets, which is a very extensive topic without knowledge of which you won’t be able to build a responsive website.
The price of a website is directly proportional to the client’s expectations.
