Cheap VPS.

I’m among others the administrator of Linux servers, I have extensive experience in migrating data from hosting to hosting or VPSs and dedicated servers, installing Debian-based Linux platform servers whose functionality is so wide that it’s hard to describe in one article, starting from web servers, TrueNas disk matrices, ending with Proxmox under virtual machines implementing various high automation actions.

Recently, I received a quote from a client for migrating one of the largest hosting platforms from VPS to dedicated server and I almost fell off my chair …

A dedicated server with incredible parameters, a fee of nearly PLN 8,000 net (so-called managed server or no need to know Linux, you have an admin on a 1/10th salary) per year plus technical support fees estimated at around PLN 3,000 net per year in total PLN 11,000 per year for the privilege of using a dedicated server.

A person who doesn’t know anything, who doesn’t know Linux, who has never administered such a server is doomed to such offers if they want more performance, as it’s basically the only option so that no one cuts resources reducing website or online store performance. Everyone with very high traffic on their website or online store knows what I’m talking about. A dedicated server means 100% of physical machine resources for you. VPS is 1/whatever physical machine resources with small attention, hosting companies secure themselves by providing so-called minimum guaranteed resources that have nothing to do with the ones you see in a VPS specification while paying for them …, which means you can get significantly lower parameters and most often it’s exactly like this.

Hosting companies claim that VPS is a guaranteed share of physical server processing power that cannot be affected by other users on the same server … unfortunately, reality shows that owners of VPS often see with their own eyes how it works in practice, e.g. despite having the same traffic one day a website or online store works slower, another faster …, and it’s not done without reason.

That’s why many people are looking for an alternative. Dedicated servers, managed ones are exorbitantly expensive regardless of where we look, plus a person who is non-technical won’t be able to administer it so they have to buy some level of technical support or the business simply comes to a standstill.

I have clients generating thousands of euros every day through online stores and every hour of downtime means substantial losses, which is why many have compromised with hosting companies’ prices in the past but is there no alternative?

There is, it’s called OVH, this company offers the cheapest VPS and dedicated servers on the market for self-management, the differences reach 1/5 to 1/6 of the costs of managed servers in other companies (not counting technical support fees) …

A good dedicated server can be rented there starting from PLN 46 net/month and a VPS with 4 cores and an AMD EPYC processor for as little as PLN 30 per month … shock and disbelief, true? I just bought such a dedicated server and I’m configuring Proxmox on it where 6 virtual machines will run with a bot that manipulates CTR for positioning (:

So as not to be empty-mouthed

You know, there’s one disk and if it crashes then kapucha, but even if you take the one for PLN 77 still it’s a steal compared to the whole machine with such power and RAM …

I’m not promoting OVH’s offer because I have zero benefits from it, I’m just showing an alternative if you can handle setting up your own server on the web.

You get a raw machine without anything, almost, in OVH’s panel you can order the installation of the operating system at the time of ordering and they will install everything for you, or you can do it yourself, but the price is very attractive.

If you have problems with the current hosting or VPS performance and you’re looking for a cheap alternative to handle traffic? Contact me using the contact form on this website (CONTACT tab or below) describing your situation. Remember that how quickly your website/online store loads has fundamental importance and impact on so-called conversions, i.e. sales, people don’t like waiting 10 or 20 seconds for a page to load, they simply leave and go to the competition.

In general, once installed, well-configured and secured, a server can work properly for a very long time, of course, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t do updates which may/need not bring some problems and then it’s worth knowing what to do, but if you want someone to help you in low costs set up such a server and then manage it yourself by paying only the micro-abonament for OVH – write – we also only deal with installations, install, configure system, server WWW secure, migrate your store or website, start everything on ready-to-use and you’ll pay only once for those works and take care of it yourself. We adapt (: We don’t only provide comprehensive support (including administration) so such installations in a one-time fee.

If you’re worried that something will happen and your website/online store won’t handle the traffic you’re directing to it from SEO or Ads, good news is that on VPS you can for a symbolic PLN 15-16 monthly rent automatic backups up to 7 days which you can restore with two clicks in OVH’s panel.

In case of a DEDICATED SERVER, depending on how you want to use it, roughly there are two options, either running Proxmox and dividing the server into independent virtual machines with their own resources and separate OSes for different purposes each machine will have its own configuration and connect to Object Storage on OVH, or make one server to handle websites/stores that have performance requirements far exceeding what a VM can do and also connect to Object Storage in OVH where backups will also be automatically performed and you’ll be able to restore them easily when needed.

[OVH-Object-Storage]

In summary, we can take care of your VPS or dedicated server starting from installing the operating system, configuring, securing, migrating your websites, and administering the server as well as only dealing with installations, configurations, securing, connecting to OVH Object Storage (automatic backups) and migrating data.
